Toddler Program

Toddler Program

(16 months – 33 months)
At Mis Tortuguitas, our Toddler Program is thoughtfully designed to support the boundless curiosity, rapid development, and growing independence of toddlers. We recognize this stage as one of the most exciting and transformative periods in early childhood, where children begin to discover their sense of self, develop language, and explore the world with energy and enthusiasm.

A Structured Yet Flexible Routine

Toddlers thrive on consistency and routine, but also need space to explore and grow at their own pace. Our daily schedule includes a balanced mix of structured activities and free play, with regular transitions for meals, naps, music, outdoor time, and small group learning. Predictable routines help toddlers feel secure and confident, while allowing for flexibility to meet their individual needs.

Spanish Immersion Through Play

Our program fully immerses toddlers in the Spanish language throughout the day. Teachers speak exclusively in Spanish, using expressive gestures, songs, games, and repetition to reinforce vocabulary and comprehension. At this age, children are incredibly receptive to language exposure, and our approach ensures they begin to understand and use Spanish naturally in everyday situations.

Hands-On Learning & Exploration

Toddlers learn best by doing. Our classrooms are equipped with age-appropriate materials and activity centers that encourage hands-on exploration. Children engage in sensory play, early art projects, storytelling, music and movement, and simple science and nature activities. These experiences foster creativity, fine and gross motor development, and early cognitive skills.

Social-Emotional Growth

We emphasize the development of self-awareness, emotional regulation, and social skills. Through gentle guidance and modeling, toddlers learn how to express their needs, take turns, share, and interact respectfully with peers. Teachers support conflict resolution, encourage cooperation, and help children begin to understand and label their feelings using both verbal and nonverbal cues.

Developing Independence

Our toddler classroom is set up to empower children to make choices and take on age-appropriate responsibilities. From washing hands to helping clean up, toddlers are encouraged to build independence in a safe and supportive environment. We also begin early potty learning in partnership with families when children show readiness.

A Safe, Stimulating Environment

Safety is at the core of everything we do. Our toddler room is designed to encourage exploration while keeping children safe. Soft furnishings, secure play areas, and a high teacher-to-child ratio ensure constant supervision and support as toddlers navigate their environment.

Family Engagement & Communication

We view parents as partners in their child’s development. Families receive daily updates on meals, naps, diapering, and activities, along with milestone tracking and photos. We maintain an open-door policy for communication, ensuring families feel informed, supported, and involved every step of the way.
The Toddler Program at Mis Tortuguitas lays a strong foundation for lifelong learning by fostering confidence, independence, language development, and joyful discovery. With love, structure, and cultural richness at its core, our program helps toddlers grow into capable, curious, and caring young learners.
