Preschool Program

Preschool Program

(33 months – 5 years)
At Mis Tortuguitas, our Preschool Program is designed to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond by nurturing the whole child—socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically—within a rich Spanish immersion environment. We believe that preschoolers learn best through hands-on exploration, meaningful relationships, and purposeful play. Our goal is to cultivate confident, bilingual learners who are ready to thrive in any setting.

Kindergarten Readiness with Cultural Depth

Our preschool curriculum focuses on early literacy, pre-math concepts, science exploration, problem-solving, and social-emotional growth. Through structured small-group learning, independent discovery, and teacher-led activities, children build foundational skills such as letter recognition, phonemic awareness, number sense, and fine motor coordination. All instruction is delivered in Spanish, creating a dual benefit of academic readiness and second-language fluency.

Spanish Immersion as a Daily Language

In this stage, children begin to grasp sentence structure, communicate their needs in Spanish, and expand their vocabulary significantly. Our immersion model supports both native English and Spanish speakers by making the second language part of their everyday world—during circle time, story reading, pretend play, science experiments, and music and movement. Children leave our program with a solid bilingual foundation that benefits them socially and academically.

Learning Through Play and Discovery

Preschoolers are natural investigators, and we foster this curiosity through project-based learning, sensory activities, dramatic play, and hands-on experiments. Our centers include areas for art, literacy, building, science, pretend play, and quiet reading. Teachers follow children’s interests while introducing age-appropriate themes that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.

Focus on Social-Emotional Intelligence

We emphasize the development of empathy, resilience, emotional regulation, and cooperative problem-solving. Children are taught to use their words, respect others, take responsibility for their actions, and express their feelings in constructive ways. Our teachers guide them with kindness and consistency, fostering a classroom culture built on respect and mutual care.

Fostering Independence and Responsibility

Preschoolers are ready to take on greater responsibility in their daily routines. From managing personal belongings to serving themselves at meals, our environment is designed to promote autonomy. We introduce time management, classroom jobs, and peer collaboration to help children build confidence and self-control as they grow into leaders in the classroom.

Enrichments and Outdoor Learning

Our program includes enrichment opportunities such as music, movement, nature exploration, and cultural celebrations that honor the diversity of Spanish-speaking countries. Outdoor play is also an important part of the day, providing time for gross motor development, social play, and connection with the natural world.

Individualized Learning and Family Partnerships

Every child is unique, and our teachers adapt activities to meet varying developmental levels and learning styles. We work closely with families through regular progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, and daily updates to ensure each child is supported holistically. Parents are welcomed as active partners in their child’s growth and learning.
At Mis Tortuguitas, our Preschool Program provides a joyful, safe, and intellectually stimulating space where children are immersed in language and culture while preparing for a lifetime of success. With the dedicated guidance of bilingual educators and the vision of Director Mrs. Ladymar, we help every child discover their potential, one step—and one word—at a time.
